On Crafting

I have the apartment to myself this week. My boyfriend is away on business so the livingroom has become craft central. Fabric and papers everywhere! It's beautiful! It's not that my boyfriend doesn't approve of my crafting, it's just I am feeling more liberal about the territory I'm staking.
I have been a crafts person since I can remember. As kids my sisters and I were given paints, fabric, wood scraps, anything you could imagine to create anything we could imagine. My mother can't sit for longer hen 5 minutes without knitting, crotcheting, or quilting something. Her first love is painting she is an artist to her core, and also a teacher of arts. I remember when I was little washing and carting wool for her to spin and weave on the big loom that stood in her bedroom.
This week I am trying to finish a quilt block I have been working on forever! I've taken out everystitch about 3 times! Hopefully I will fininsh in the next 2 days. Tomorrow I am buying a new sewing machine!!!!!
The pic posted is the last quilt block finished, my version of Paul Klee's 'Face'. The current project is 'Madame X' by Sargent.

I'm in Love...

...with the new TV show on ABC "Pushing Daisies"! I am so excited for every episode. It is very well written, it has an incredible cast, and it is beautifully shot and designed.
I don't have a television, but these days if you have a computer with fast enough internet you can watch almost anything. I got rid of my TV about two years ago. That sounds like I had more will-power then I actually had, I really should say my TV died. I was watching an old movie when there was a loud POP, the images on the screen became a tiny bright dot, and smoke wisped out of the speakers. I figured it was a good thing, I was about to start my second year of grad school and thought it would be better not to have the distractions. (That and I was broke and a new TV was out of the budget.)
Then ABC did something brillant and started airing their shows on their website! Then the other networks followed suit! I was hooked, and watched every episode that came on!
Now that I am a seasoned internet show watcher, I am trying not to watch the crappy shows just because they are available. There are enough good ones to keep up with that I don't need to watch "Caveman". (Who thought that would be a good TV idea?) I am disapointed that "Grey's Anatomy" took a turn down the shit-sandwich highway. Everyone slept with everyone too much and now they've run out of things to say.
...but "Pushing Daisies" is fantastic.

To Be, or What To Be?

Hello blog land,
I have entered the real world. After 20 plus odd years in the comfortable realm of academia, I have graduated with an MFA. I have had deep discussions, delved into the theoretical, and dabbled with the practical. Now I must strike out in my own, be the fresh faced artist destined for a life of creative success.

It's now been 5 months. No work. No imcome. No one knocking down my door. No one really needing that fresh face. Hmmmm. Perhaps I should have been a plumber.
